Seamus Coleman has invited an Everton fan to Finch Farm after their match against Liverpool on Saturday was called off.
Giulia Bould shared a video on X sent by Coleman to BBC Merseyside, addressing the 15-year-old Toffees fan who travelled from Australia to attend the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on 7 December.
Mackenzie Kinsella missed the game that he’d saved for and flown across the world to see, with Coleman providing a silver lining by inviting the youngster to a training session.
He said: “I know how hard you’ve saved up to travel from Australia for the Merseyside derby.
“I knew you were looking forward to the experience – so I’m sure that you’ll be very disappointed today.
“We were all looking forward to the game, but we’d love to see you down here at the training ground on Monday.
“Hopefully you can see a few of the lads, and hopefully it’ll make up for some of the disappointment and we can have a chat then.”
Everton react to fan saga after derby disappointment
Storm Darragh putting paid to the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park – for now – will have disappointed Blues fans the world over, particularly those who travelled the world to see it.
Giving Mackenzie the opportunity to watch a training session at Finch Farm could prove to be an even greater experience for the young supporter, allowing him to come face-to-face with the squad itself.
While the youngster may not get to experience the magic of Goodison Park itself, meeting his heroes in Blue at Finch Farm could soothe the blow.
Minus the adverse weather conditions which resulted in the game being postponed, and the pressure on the players to perform in a Merseyside derby, Coleman and Co will likely be much more approachable.
Time is running out for every Toffees fan of any age to witness Goodison in its current guise before the stadium move to Bramley-Moore Dock, but Everton are, and always will be, The People’s Club.
In other Everton news, Jason McAteer was left gobsmacked by what Richard Keys said about his allegiances on Merseyside.
