Exclusive: £10m Liverpool academy product in line for England promotion this week

Former Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark is under consideration for a call-up to the England Under-21 squad, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old has impressed in the early stages of his career with RB Salzburg in Austria.

Clark, who left Liverpool for Salzburg earlier this summer, is currently an England Under-20 international, but could now be set for a call-up to the Under-21 squad.

The midfielder left Anfield to reunite with ex-Reds assistant Pep Lijnders in August, with Salzburg paying a reported £10million for his services.

Clark, who also had academy stints with Birmingham and Newcastle, signed a five-year contract in Austria.

Interim England Under-21 boss Ben Futcher will name his squad for October internationals against Ukraine and Azerbaijan on Friday (4 October) after Lee Carsley stepped up to the senior side.

The Young Lions must make up a five-point deficit to Ukraine to qualify automatically for the European Championships next year.

Current Liverpool star Harvey Elliott is the top scorer in qualifying with seven goals in seven appearances.

Clark played 34 minutes in his only appearance for England’s Under-20 side in a 5-1 win against Poland in March.

He made 14 senior appearances during his time at Liverpool, scoring in the Europa League and providing two assists.
