Napoli and RB Leipzig are trying to hijack Chelsea’s deal for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion after talks collapsed, sources have told Football Insider.
The 20-year-old was on the verge of a move to Stamford Bridge after a deal was agreed between the two European giants, but it fell through at the eleventh hour after a disagreement over his contract.
The La Liga side are still open to selling Omorodion as they look for a significant sale in this window so they can finalise a move for Conor Gallagher.
The Chelsea midfielder has agreed terms with Atletico Madrid and completed a medical, but his club has been ordered him to return to the UK because the deal has yet to be completed.
The La Liga giants are reportedly in talks with Chelsea over the sale of Joao Felix, which could also help Gallagher’s deal get over the line.
Napoli and RB Leipzig will battle for Samu Omorodion’s signature
Omorodion has yet to make his senior Atletico Madrid debut since joining the La Liga giants from Granada last summer.
The striker was immediately sent out on loan to Alaves last season, and he scored eight goals in 34 La Liga appearances.
Napoli could be set to lose Victor Osimhen in this window due to the interest surrounding him, which is why signing a striker is a priority for Antonio Conte.
It is believed that Lukaku is keen to join the Italian side, but whether the two clubs can negotiate a deal that suits all parties remains to be seen.
In other news, Raheem Sterling’s stance on quitting Chelsea revealed by sources.
