Expert View: 18y/o newbie set for first-team Tottenham role as loan claim emerges

John Wenham believes Lucas Bergvall is set for a prominent first-team role with Tottenham this season.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose suggested that he previously thought the 18-year-old might be sent out on a season-long loan.

Bergvall has thus far featured in all three pre-season matches for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has been impressed by what he has seen thus far.

“Bergvall has slotted in really well at the club,” Wenham said.

“He looks as if he is ready to come in and immediately feature in the first team this season, especially with the UEFA Europa League to come.

“I thought previously that Tottenham would take a look at him in pre-season and make a decision on whether or not to send him out on loan.

“However, I get the feeling from what we’ve seen thus far that he can be considered a first-team player already. That is therefore fantastic as it means we have another midfield option.”

Bergvall has looked at ease this far since arriving at Tottenham.

For an 18-year-old to arrive in England and immediately make an impression is impressive. However, it is perhaps less surprising considering this is a player who has already made his first-team debut for Sweden.

Of course, it is only pre-season, and the real hard work is yet to begin.

However, with Europa League matches on the agenda this season there will be plenty of chances for Bergvall to make an impression, and he could soon be quite a familiar name in English football.
