Hugh Keevins: Rangers fallout to be 'Catastrophic', fans could file for compensation

Hugh Keevins has slammed Rangers and their treatment of season ticket holders ahead of the potential move to Murrayfield after the closure of Ibrox.

Work on the Copland Stand has been delayed, which will force the Gers to begin the new Scottish Premiership season away from home.

The Scottish Sun has reported (20 June) that a switch to play at the home of Scottish rugby is being considered as a temporary switch.

In his column for the Sunday Mail (23 June, page 56), Keevins suggested that season ticket holders will have financial demands should the move go ahead.

He said: “The fall-out from the closure of Ibrox at the start of the new season will be catastrophic.

“Moving to Murrayfield, if that is what eventually happens, involves extra expenditure for season ticket holders turned into displaced persons. Compensation claims for devalued season tickets will follow.”

Rangers in tricky Ibrox situation

Work on developing Ibrox has hit a speed bump that will leave the club homeless to begin the season in a near worst-case scenario.

With potentially the first five home games of the season being forced out to a new venue, it will be a far from ideal situation.

Now it is up to John Bennett and Co. to find a solution that suits all parties, even if it isn’t what he would have wanted to do.

James Bisgrove has departed and so misses out on any criticism that comes from this delay and the frustration that it has caused.

With work also going on at Hampden Park, that isn’t an option either so Rangers are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

With nearly 50 miles between the national rugby stadium and Ibrox, it is a lengthy journey for fans and season ticket holders in particular.

The club need to work out a solution and fast before it gets any messier than it already is.
