'Ibrox sources' react as another Rangers ace linked to late Turkey transfer after Tavernier - report

Ridvan Yilmaz is not expected to make a late Rangers exit to join Besiktas before the Turkish transfer window shuts, the Daily Record reports.

According to the paper’s website on 12 September “Ibrox sources” had shot down the idea of the left-back being subject to a late run from the Super Lig side.

Suggestions had emerged in Turkey that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Besiktas were set move for the 23-year-old after Fenerbahce backed off [Kibris Turk, 11 September] and bring him back to his former side.

According to The Athletic on 31 August the Turkish transfer window remains open until 18 September, with a move for James Tavernier also opening up since the deadline passed in Scotland [HITC, 6 September].

James Tavernier also not leaving Rangers for Turkey

The Gers captain has now turned down the chance to make a late move to the Super Lig, despite talks with clubs in Istanbul and the chance of a major pay rise, and will remain at Ibrox [HITC, 12 September].

Van Bronckhorst and Besiktas have also been credited with an interest in the 32-year-old but will have to wait until the January window [Haber Turk, 10 September], and so it appears they will if Yilmaz is also on their list.

With Yilmaz currently injured again Ibrox News pundit Derek Ferguson has suggested the Light Blues “missed a trick” during the summer by not cashing on interest while they had the chance.

His time at Ibrox has seen him regularly knocked out of action, and while he eventually saw off Borna Barisic he has now risked losing his place to new arrival Jefte by opening the door for the Brazilian to get an early run in the side.

Rangers ace Jefte
Rangers signed Jefte this summer and he is playing in place of the injured Ridvan Yilmaz.

Yilmaz has endlessly been tipped to return to his home country and if he can’t stay fit this season there would probably be good reason to let him go.

Philippe Clement sounded prepared to sanction his departure during exit links last January but the right offer seemingly didn’t come in.

But after a frustrating transfer window where signings were restricted by an inability to get players out there could be reason to reduce the asking price for the Turkish international if he is so regularly unavailable.

In other Rangers news, Ianis Hagi’s agents have issued an update on a potential contract termination at Ibrox.
