Everton might have the best view anywhere in the country from a bar at their new Bramley-Moore Dock home, says Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports journalist responded via X to a fan on 12 October to express how impressive the scene is in person looking out across the water back towards the city.
The Toffees are due to move into the new stadium at the start of next season after being at Goodison Park since 1892.
Myers wrote in response to a post of a picture showing the work in progress: “Possibly the best view from a stadium bar in the country, more incredible when you’re actually in there as opposed to a photograph”.
Everton set for Goodison Park send off as Dan Friedkin comes in
The new stadium has been central to the recent history of Everton before a game has even been played there, but signs largely suggest it will be worth the wait.
It may prove to be the lasting legacy of Farhad Moshiri’s time in charge on Merseyside once The Friedkin Group complete their takeover and the financial turmoil of the past few seasons under the current majority shareholder are gradually consigned to memory.
Much of that financial turmoil has been related to the strain construction of a project initially announced as a £500million job but had subsequently cost more than £800m up to last year.
Funding the build contributed to Moshiri’s ability or desire to bankroll the club coming to an end, and disputed classifications for interest payments on the subsequent borrowing required has a further points deduction still hanging over the Toffees even now.
The stadium has long been seen as the jewell in the crown of the club’s potential for prospective buyers.
Dan Friedkin has committed to covering the final costs through to completion even before he is officially confirmed as the new owner [Liverpool Echo, 1 October] so the key priority is to ensure the club remain a Premier League outfit for when they move in next term.
Sean Dyche’s side have gone three games unbeaten after a dismal run of four defeats to open the campaign and he will remain confident of avoiding relegation danger for a third season running.
But whether he remains in the job that far after the takeover remains a question amid links to big-name managers such as Maurizio Sarri [Corriere Dello Sport, 25 September] and Jose Mourinho [TBR Football, 12 October].
In other Everton news, transfer activity expected once The Friedkin Group complete their takeover.
