Journalist shares 'Major Concern' over Ibrox redevelopment fiasco

Rangers have been left “red-faced” by the Copland Road Stand redevelopment setback at Ibrox ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

That is according to journalist Scott Burns, who believes the ongoing stadium saga is a “major concern”, with the club having to strike a deal to move their opening five home matches to Hampden Park [The Scottish Sun].

While the national team’s stadium is just a temporary fix, the situation could have an impact on the Gers’ European fixtures, with Barcelona facing a similar issue with their ground [Mundo Deportivo].

Speaking via the Daily Record on Saturday (13 July), Burns said: “Certainly on the stadium, it’s a major concern. The club has been left red-faced and goodness knows when they will be back at Ibrox.

“In terms of the squad, they still need to add a number of big hitters too.”

Rangers desperate for Ibrox fix as ‘major concern’ mooted

The ongoing situation surrounding the redevelopment setbacks at Ibrox is incredibly serious, with one senior figure being fired [Rangers Review].

Not only is it adding unneeded stress for the Gers, it could have serious implications for the team’s opening few matches of the 2024/25 campaign.

Philippe Clement and his team are set to travel to Hearts on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership season, before then facing back-to-back home games against Motherwell and Ross County.

Throw Champions League qualification matches into the situation and the Gers are heading into the unknown following a disappointing end to the 2023/24 campaign.

Rangers are facing redevelopment setbacks at Ibrox this summer

Though Clement was able to pick up the Scottish League Cup during his first season in Scotland, Rangers eventually lost out to rivals Celtic in both the Scottish Premiership title race and the Scottish Cup.

Clearly, adding more players to the squad is an important step this summer, even with the likes of Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane joining the ranks, but the Ibrox saga seems to be taking away some of the much-needed focus and attention.

In other Rangers news, Cyriel Dessers’ exit hits a new stumbling block after an admission from Philippe Clement.
