Leeds United fans have showcased their excitement over Alex Cairns rejoining the club from Salford City.

The Championship club confirmed on Monday they had bought the 31-year-old for a six-figure sum after news of the deal was exclusively revealed by Football Insider on Sunday.

The goalkeeper came through the Leeds academy before signing his first professional deal at Elland Road back in 2011.

However, he only made one senior appearance for the club during his initial stint before being moved on to Chesterfield.

Since then, Cairns has played for various clubs, including making 240 appearances for Fleetwood Town.

The shot-stopper featured 51 times last season for Salford and managed to keep eight clean sheets, playing a crucial role as they avoided relegation from League Two.

The announcement of Cairns’ transfer was met positively by the vast majority of fans online, as they welcomed him back with open arms.

Illan Meslier is expected to remain the number one at Elland Road moving forward, but Leeds fans believe adding Cairns to the squad boosts their promotion hopes.
