John Wenham claims Joe Rodon turned down Premier League interest to join Leeds United from Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the 26-year-old was only ever keen on a return to Elland Road.

Leeds United announced via the club’s official website (2 July) that Rodon has signed a four-year deal with the Whites after an impressive spell on loan during the 2023/24 season.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks this was a good move for all parties involved.

“It was definitely the right decision to let Rodon leave,” Wenham said.

“If he had another year on his contract then we probably could have got £15million for him. However, £10million is still a decent fee.

“He turned down interest from Premier League clubs, the likes of Ipswich Town and Southampton, to return to Leeds.

“It was therefore clear that he wanted to return to Elland Road. He is well-loved by the supporters there and clearly feels at home with the club.”

Joe Rodon says goodbye to Tottenham and joins Leeds United

Very few supporters are likely to lose much sleep over the sale of Rodon.

He is a player who Ange Postecoglou would have wanted to move on, and the Australian will therefore no doubt be delighted that Rodon’s future was sorted so early on in the summer.

However, what some fans might be surprised to discover is that the centre-back turned down Premier League interest.

It is clear that Rodon only wanted a return to Elland Road, and Leeds supporters will therefore be delighted to have him back at the club.

Rodon never quite made an impact in North London, but he will still likely leave with the best wishes of everybody connected to Tottenham.

In other Tottenham news, the club are preparing a bid for a Chelsea player as behind-the-scenes tension is mooted at Stamford Bridge.
