Man City told to 'pack their bags' after Premier League latest - Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Man City are unlikely to receive damages from the Premier League after their legal battle last month.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – urged both sides to “pack up their bags” and “get on with football”.

City took legal action in their bid to end the Premier League’s Associated Party Rules (APT) last month in a two-week hearing.

The English champions sued the league for damages, accusing top-flight rules of being anti-competitive and discriminatory towards the Gulf states.

It has recently emerged (as per The Guardian, 8 July) that City are claiming unfair treatment from the Premier League as they assess their commercial income by relying on the analysis of Nielsen Sports, a data company that also works for their rivals.

Current APT rules serve to prevent clubs from inflating commercial deals with owner-linked companies as agreements are assessed as fair market value.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s a big leap to see how Man City could get any damages.

“I don’t think there will be any financial repercussions.

“There are obviously grounds for City to bring the case, it’s not a frivolous case.

“But I don’t think anything will come from it. Hopefully, both sides will pack up their bags and get on with it.

“Let’s get on with football.”
