O'Rourke Sources: Newcastle United ready 'big-money moves'

Newcastle United are expected to imminently make some “big-money moves” in the summer transfer window.

That’s the view of senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke, who spoke on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast about Newcstle’s summer business.

The Magpies could have an endless budget as the richest club in the world, but they are cutting their cloth due to the profit and sustainability rules.

The club sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson this summer to aid with that, and their signings have involved little in the way of transfer fees.

So far, Eddie Howe’s team have signed Odysseas Vlachodimos and brought in Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy on free transfers.

But Eddie Howe is concentrating on two key areas this summer, which are central defence and the right wing.

The Newcastle boss wants to bolster those positions during the rest of the window, and sources believe that Newcastle will spend heavily to do so.

Newcastle are preparing to back Howe this summer

With Jamal Lascelles and Sven Botman expected to be injured until 2025, signing a central defender is a key focus for Howe to provide cover.

Signing a right-winger is also a major target for the Magpies, and Football Insider revealed that the club are interested in Barcelona’s Raphinha as well as Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville.

Howe would ideally like an inverted right-winger who can cut in and score goals while also being capable of running at defenders.

Another positive aspect of this transfer window has been Newcastle’s ability to retain Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, despite outside interest.

However, the Magpies still have work to do in retaining Anthony Gordon this summer as Football Insider revealed Man City have now joined Liverpool in the race to sign him.

In other news, Newcastle are in talks over Callum Wilson deal.
