Man United players were not all pleased when it was revealed that Erik ten Hag would retain his position in charge of the club after last season.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed that “not everyone’s bought into Ten Hag.”
The Premier League giants conducted a season review after the previous campaign ended, and were open about considering other managers to potentially replace Ten Hag.
The club ultimately stuck with the Dutch manager and even rewarded him with a one-year contract extension, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2026.
Man United players haven’t all bought into Erik ten Hag
Ten Hag must turn recent results around when the international break is over, placing some early-season pressure on the 54-year-old.
“They did they clearly didn’t feel that they had the right person,” Robinson told Football Insider about United looking for other managers in the summer.
“I don’t buy into the whole fact we did a season review and we’ve given him a new contract.
“You do the season review and then give him a new contract you don’t go looking for replacements before you do a season review or before you offer a new contract.
“If you’re that confident in your manager, you give him a new contract and say, ‘Great, we’re looking forward to next year.’
“You don’t look at other candidates or do a season review and leave yourself the option of bringing other people in.
“It was all done the wrong way round, they had to back their manager, and they’ve backed their manager.
“I’m getting the feeling from Manchester United fans that not everyone’s bought into Ten Hag.
“There’s a lot that were disappointed they got a new contract and stayed.”
