Rangers ace to join new teammates at training camp as another Ibrox exit to be sealed - report

Connor Goldson is now expected to join up with his new Aris Limassol teammates at their training camp as he completes a move away from Rangers, Derek Clark reports.

According to the Rangers Review journalist via X on 26 July the Ibrox centre-back is set to enter the Cypriot side’s squad at their preseason camp in Austria, suggesting his medical has gone well.

The 31-year-old flew to Cyprus over the weekend to discuss a move with Aris [This Is Mappa, 21 July] before returning to the Gers squad for the friendly trip to face Birmingham City.

But he abruptly left the Light Blues again as Philippe Clement confirmed prior to the match on 24 July that a “concrete” offer had come in and he’d been allowed to go and agree a move, with Sky Sports reporting (24 July) that the medical was still to follow.

Philippe Clement starts Rangers clear out of senior players

Established Ibrox performers such as John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Borna Barisic have already left the club as their contracts expired.

That has cleared space on the wage bill but Philippe Clement subsequently stated he still have to sell in order to buy [Daily Record, 13 July].

Goldson therefore looks to be the first of a second wave of exits for transfer fees as the Ibrox boss makes room to finally complete his transfer overhaul this summer.

The likes of Sam Lammers to FC Twente [Andrea Losapio, 24 July] and Ianis Hagi to Fiorentina look to now be close [SportpeSure, 21 July], while James Tavernier has been near to a Trabzonspor move for a while now [Rangers Review, 23 July].

Clement also confirmed Todd Cantwell has asked to leave [Sky Sports, 24 July] and will be allowed to do so while Scott Wright, who scored a nice goal at St. Andrew’s also has multiple suitors [TEAMtalk, 23 July].

Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement surely now needs to sign a new senior Gers centre-back for the new season.

If all are moved on it should finally give Clement and Nils Koppen the space and the finances to restock the squad, but there is now major time pressure if it is to get done.

Clinton Nsiala has been brought in at centre-back but the 20-year-old has never played a senior first-team game so an established option is surely a must now, with ex-Nottingham Forest man Scott McKenna one option who’s been backed to improve the squad and has already responded to Ibrox links [Scottish Sun, 12 June].

In other Rangers news, senior Light Blues figures have raised an “issue” with the signing of Lawrence Shankland.
