Rangers on verge of new transfer, he could miss majority of pre-season already - report

Rangers-bound Hamza Igamane could miss the majority of pre-season at Ibrox if he’s named in Morocco’s Olympics squad, according to the Daily Record.

The Record reported in their print edition (17 June, page 48) that the 21-year-old FAR Rabat forward is in contention to be included in the Atlas Lions’ 18-man squad for the Paris Games this summer.

However, this tournament takes place between 24 July and 9 August, meaning that Igamane would be away during one of the most crucial stages of pre-season training at Ibrox.

Rangers are said to have agreed a £1.7million fee for the attacker, with his medical to take place before the move is announced at Auchenhowie.

Will Rangers still want Hamza Igamane transfer?

A £1.7million fee has reportedly already been agreed for Igamane by the Gers, suggesting that they’re keen to complete the 21-year-old’s signing regardless of the looming Olympic Games [Daily Record].

Philippe Clement’s squad rebuild is already starting to take shape in a busy summer of business at Ibrox, though the potential loss of Igamane, before he’s even properly arrived, could be a blow.

The Gers needed reinforcements up front before first-choice number nine Cyriel Dessers picked up an injury in the Scottish Cup Final, and the pursuit of Igamane suggests an early bid to fix that issue [Glasgow World].

Sam Lammers potentially being allowed to leave the club, and Danilo’s journey on a long road back from injury potentially leaves the Ibrox striker stocks even more depleted going into the new season [Sky Sports].

However, with Igamane still only 21, being bought from Morocco, and likely to be selected in a tournament which massively overlaps the start of Rangers’ season, the signs point to his arrival being a development transfer rather than the out-and-out Dessers alternative Clement needs this summer.

In other Rangers news, John Bennett has assured that the Light Blues will have money to spend this summer.
