Report: Arsenal staff left shocked after claims they want to sign £50m midfielder this summer

Arsenal are being linked with a number of players this summer but it seems one particular link has left those at The Emirates confused.

The Gunners are keen to strengthen the pack once more this summer after narrowly losing out to Manchester City in the title race.

As we know, Benjamin Sesko is one of the players getting plenty of mentions in the media about a move to the Gunners.

But aside from signing a striker, Arsenal are also keen on signing a midfielder. The likes of Martin Zubimendi have been mentioned, while Bruno Guimaraes is also a player of interest.

However, while those names seem sensible enough for Arsenal, one link has left those at the club shocked.

Arsenal insiders shocked by transfer links to Amadou Onana

According to The Mirror, Arsenal are keen on signing a new midfielder but Everton star Onana is not someone they are actively looking at.

The report claims that while Onana was heavily linked with a move in January, the actual reporting caused raised eyebrows inside The Emirates.

Indeed, it’s suggested that Onana is simply not the type of midfielder Arsenal are looking at now and they have no interest in signing him right now.

Everton, of course, value Onana highly and want around £50m for the Belgian star.

But with money issues consuming the club, Onana is among a cluster of players who the Toffees may look to sell this summer.

Onana will continue to be linked regardless

It’s quite interesting to see this report and that in the end, Arsenal had little to zero interest in signing Onana at all.

However, you do get the impression that his name will come up again at some point in the future.

Onana has been mentioned so often over the last few windows that somewhere down the line, he’s going to crop up with Arsenal once more.

Gunners fans, though, will find it hard to buy into those rumours after this news.

Onana, then, might well need to wait for another interested party if he is to get his move away from Merseyside.
