Report: Newcastle have now told player he'll train with youth team if he doesn't leave club this summer

Newcastle United have informed one player that he will be forced to train with the youth team should he refuse to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

A number of players have already been linked with a move away from St James’ Park in the early stages of the window, with the Magpies looking to bring funds in before they invest in Eddie Howe’s squad.

Callum Wilson could leave for Saudi Arabia, while Miguel Almiron’s future also has a question mark hanging over it. But it appears that Newcastle are particularly keen to see another sale go through as soon as possible.

Yankuba Minteh may well not get the chance to make his competitive Newcastle debut. Lyon are willing to meet Newcastle’s £40 million asking price for Minteh, while Everton are also keen on the 19-year-old.

According to a report from The Sun, Minteh has turned down the chance to move to Ligue 1 as he would prepare to remain in the Premier League, and that appears to have caused some frustration amongst the Newcastle hierarchy.

Everton have held talks with Minteh’s representatives, but are yet to agree a fee with Newcastle. And the Magpies have now made it clear to the teenager that he will train with the youth team should he not leave in this window.

Everton may now feel in a strong position

Everton will hope that the potential chaos plays into their hands as they look to agree a fee with Newcastle for the attacker. It would appear that the Magpies are very keen to cash in on Minteh, so it is hard to see both parties reconciling in the future.

Never say never, of course – there have been much more dramatic u-turns over the years – but Everton will feel optimistic that Newcastle’s stance increases the likelihood of the Toffees securing a deal for a fee which is much more appealing to them.
