Report: Tottenham could now lose 19-year-old they think will become a star for good as talks begin

Tottenham could now lose one of their top prospects permanently as negotiations begin.

Spurs have produced some tremendous talents over the years, churning the likes of Harry Kane and Ledley King out of the academy – to name just a couple.

Now – however – one of Tottenham‘s most precocious youngsters could leave for good rather than hone his talents in N17…

Tottenham could lose Will Lankshear

A story from London World now claims that Will Lankshear could leave Tottenham in a permanent deal as talks begin with Middlesbrough.

The 19-year-old is someone who Spurs are very excited about and believe could develop into a star, according to respected journalist Tom Barclay, who told The Tottenham Way Podcast: “Within the academy there’s young Will Lankshear, he has 11 goals in 11 games in those PL2 games.

“He was signed 18 months ago from Sheffield United for £2m and that’s not nothing at that age. He actually started life at Arsenal, but despite that, he’s someone they’re very excited about.”

As Barclay states, Lankshear was not a cheap addition to the academy, although he could now walk away from N17.

London World believe Middlesbrough have offered the teenager a contract as Michael Carrick aims to bring the England U19 international to the Riverside Stadium.

It is unclear whether Boro aim to sign Lankshear on loan or permanently, although London World simply state that a permanent exit “cannot be ruled out” as clubs across Europe also show interest.

The Tottenham wonderkid impressively scored 25 goals in just 26 appearances during the 2023/24 campaign – while also providing three assists.

Spurs have to keep him

A loan deal for Lankshear – who has actually broken a record at Spurs – would be a fantastic move from Tottenham this summer, as the prospect needs senior game time to develop his immense potential.

However, a permanent exit would be a nightmare, as the former Arsenal youth player is showing signs of becoming a top striker – something Ange Postecoglou could soon need amid doubts over the future of Richarlison.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Middlesbrough attempt to sign Lankshear.
