Report: West Ham now want to sign ‘fantastic’ Tottenham defender who Postecoglou wants sold

West Ham United have been linked with a move for a Tottenham player who Ange Postecoglou is keen to offload this summer.

Julen Lopetegui has wasted no time in bolstering his squad after the arrivals of Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham.

The former Wolves boss has plenty of work to do as he bids to shape the West Ham squad in his image after David Moyes’ departure.

Bringing in new options at full-back is likely to be high on the Hammers’ agenda, with Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters said to be of interest.

Now, after being linked with a Tottenham academy graduate, Diario AS claims Lopetegui is also keen on signing a current Spurs defender.

West Ham want to sign Sergio Reguilon

Tottenham have proven ruthless in clearing the decks already this summer, with Joe Rodon heading out the door after allowing five players to leave on free transfers.

Sergio Reguilon is certainly in line to depart after returning from a loan spell at Brentford. The Spaniard spent the first half of last season at Old Trafford and made the switch to the Gtech Community Stadium after his loan was cut short.

Now, after playing under Lopetegui during Sevilla’s Europa League-winning season in 2019/20, AS reports that the West Ham boss is keen on a reunion.

Reguilon is set to leave Tottenham this summer and is attracting interest from West Ham, as well as Manchester United and Juventus.

It’s noted that the Spanish full-back looks set to remain in the Premier League, despite interest from Italy.

Reguilon surplus to requirements at Tottenham

It’s evident that Reguilon doesn’t feature in Postecoglou’s plans moving forward after spending the last season out on loan.

Recent reports have claimed that the Aussie boss has deemed the full-back surplus to requirements, with Spurs searching for a new left-sided defender.

Reguilon racked up four assists in 16 Premier League appearances for the Bees last term.

The ‘fantastic’ 27-year-old has undoubtedly struggled since his switch to north London back in 2020 but has shown glimpses of his quality.

Lopetegui is certainly a manager who knows how to get the best out of the defender after Reguilon enjoyed what remains his best season to date under the Hammers boss in La Liga.
