Roy Keane has rubbished any praise for the defensive performance from Arsenal following their 2-2 draw against Man City at the Etihad.
Mikel Arteta’s side fought hard to secure a 2-2 draw against their title rivals after Erling Haaland’s opening goal was overturned by efforts from Riccardo Calafiori, before John Stones crashed home a 98th-minute winner.
Having gone down to ten men when Leandro Trossard was sent off shortly before half-time, Arsenal dropped back in the second half in an attempt to hold on to their lead.
After the full-time whistle, former City defender Micah Richards was full of praise for the Gunners’ rearguard action as he labelled them “unbelievable”, much to Keane’s frustration.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Main Event (22 September, 18:41), Richards shared “Gabriel and Salbia were unbelievable. To defend like that, in the league, it was just remarkable.”
Keane then ranted in response: “They conceded two goals, so they couldn’t have defended that well. They conceded two goals.
“Do you know what, can I tell you, it has happened before when teams can get a result when they’re playing with ten men. Everyone’s making out like they’ve done something extraordinary.
“Listen, Arsenal did well, but City were really poor. There was no movement, no overlaps, no underlaps. It was more poor play from City than Arsenal’s brilliant defending.
“That’s the easiest part of football. Give anybody a coaching topic to defend and they’ll do it.”

Keane was less than enthused by the praise for Arsenal, insisting it was nothing special – but the Gunners are, yet again, being widely saluted for their defensive stability.
Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba have been singled out for their partnership in recent weeks as they have grown into one of the Premier League’s best defensive duos, if not the best.
Arsenal had the best defensive record in the league last season, and many are tipping them to replicate or better their record this time around.
However, as Keane was quick to point out, they conceded two goals away from home despite what was a tight affair amid plenty of pressure.
Arsenal have conceded just three goals from their opening five games of the season, with two of those coming at the Etihad, including clean sheets away at Tottenham and Aston Villa.
