Tottenham assistant coach Ryan Mason is in talks to become the new Anderlecht head coach, according to The Sun.
The newspaper reported in their print edition (9 October, page 51) that the 33-year-old is a leading candidate to take the reins at the Belgian club.
Mason is a part of Ange Postecoglou’s coaching staff at Tottenham and is contracted until 2027, but could leave the club to pursue his own managerial ambitions.
Ryan Mason could end six-year coaching stint with Tottenham
Mason forayed into the world of coaching after being forced to hang up his boots in 2018.
The Englishman initially returned to Tottenham as a youth coach that year and earned promotion to their head of player development two years later.
He has had two spells as the North London club’s interim manager, overseeing a total of 13 games with a 46 per cent win record.
Mason has been serving as an assistant to Postecoglou since the Greek-Australian’s arrival ahead of the 2023-24 season.
With Anderlecht giving serious thought to hiring Mason, the former midfielder could be in line for his first coaching stint away from Spurs.
There is no doubt that he is keen to become a manager and a move to the Brussels-based club could be the right move for him.
Anderlecht, who sit fourth in the Belgian Pro League, are notably without a manager after sacking Brian Riemer in September.
Postecoglou, meanwhile, is under growing pressure at Tottenham as the club sit ninth in the table after seven games with 10 points.
