Tottenham fans rage at Guglielmo Vicario after what Gary Neville said

Tottenham fans have been left fuming at Guglielmo Vicario after his role in Arsenal’s winning goal during the North London derby.

Mikel Arteta’s side claimed all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a towering header from Gabriel Magalhaes, leaving the home supporters incensed.

However, their focus rested on the goalkeeper’s role in the goal as he stood rooted to his line while the Arsenal defender leapt unchallenged to score.

Vicario’s lack of command over his area has been a frequent problem for Spurs, and was highlighted in the same fixture last season when the Gunners scored twice from corners.

Arteta’s team targeted the goalkeeper once more on Sunday (15 September) as they crowded the box before firing the ball in for Gabriel to head home.

However, it was not only Spurs fans left fuming at the goalkeeper, as Gary Neville told Sky Sports: “I will go hard on the goalkeeper in the sense of, I played with dominant goalkeepers and I played with no so dominant goalkeepers.

“It’s a must, for me, to have a goalkeeper that’s brave. He was getting involved [with the Arsenal players]. Get them out of the way. When that ball lands three or four yards in your zone…

“I’m not having this idea that keepers get blocked. The best goalkeepers, if they get blocked, it’s a foul. He has to come out and punch that. He has to help Romero.

“I don’t care how it’s being played in, you should be able to catch or punch it. He gets involved all the time, he’s always whinging, it’s all a bit frantic. I don’t want to see that.”

Vicario has received plenty of high praise for his shot-stopping ability since arriving in North London last summer, but fans are beginning to grow frustrated with his game.

A lack of a commanding presence in the area has cost Postecoglou’s side too many goals in big games, with the goalkeeper the chief issue.

Following the game, Tottenham fans flooded to social media to express their frustrations, as many insisted the club should cash in on Vicario now.
