UEFA could make Hampden Park decision after Ibrox shambles at Rangers - report

Rangers could be forced out of Ibrox for their entire European campaign due to UEFA rules as the stadium issues continue to cause chaos, according to The Sun.

The newspaper has reported on its website (11 July), that the club are close to agreeing on a deal to use Hampden Park for their first five home fixtures of the season, including Champions League qualifiers, amid issues with the Copland Road Stand redevelopment.

Should any further delays arise and Rangers be forced to start their Champions League or Europa League group stages at Hampden, they could be forced to continue to play their home games there until the end of that stage of the competition due to UEFA rules.

Matchday one in the new-look Champions League groups starts on September 17, with the Europa League groups starting eight days later.

Rangers at major disadvantage for UEFA campaign amid Ibrox issues

Whenever Rangers are playing in European competition, their best chance of success always comes at Ibrox with the roar of the crowd behind them.

A move to Hampden isn’t the worst thing in the world if temporary, but if the club are forced to travel for every ‘home’ game because of this Copland Road Stand shambles then it won’t be a good thing.

The players will be out of sorts, the fans will not feel at home and it won’t have the aura of the iconic Ibrox ground. In short, it’s an advantage for any potential opponents.

Obviously, Rangers have to get there first, but they have to navigate those qualification games at Hampden Park too and that’s not ideal either.

It’s out of the club’s control now and if UEFA decide to play hardball over it and any further delays take place, then it could jeopardise any success the club were planning on having on the continent this season.
