Wenham expects first-team player to quit Tottenham after official transfer announcement

John Wenham expects Emerson Royal to be sold by Tottenham after the signing of Archie Gray.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lliywhite Rose claims Gray will be able to fill in at right-back should Emerson depart the club.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (11 July), AC Milan are continuing to work on a deal to sign Emerson, with personal terms having already been agreed.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes his transfer is more likely to go through after the arrival of Gray from Leeds United.

“Gray is more than capable of playing at right-back, he demonstrated that last season,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, I think Emerson will now be allowed to leave the club.

“Tottenham are playing in the UEFA Europa League next season. As a result, there will be plenty of opportunities for Gray to demonstrate what he is all about.

“That could therefore lead to Pedro Porro starting in the Premier League and Gray starting in cup competitions.

“If that were to happen, it would be a fantastic way for him to settle in at the club.”

Will Tottenham sell Emerson Royal to AC Milan?

Gray is a very talented player who is still only 18 years old.

However, perhaps more importantly for Ange Postecoglou, the England youth international is very versatile and can play in several positions across the midfield as well as at right-back.

Therefore, it opens the door for Emerson to leave knowing that there is a suitable replacement ready to take his place.

As a result, with personal terms already agreed between Emerson and Milan, it is now up to the two clubs to reach an agreement in transfer negotiations.
