View: Ange will be concerned after what happened to Tottenham U21 sensation on Friday

Ange Postecoglou will be concerned by Alfie Dorrington’s lack of progress at Tottenham this season.

It has been a difficult season for Spurs’ Under-21s.

After dominating last season and winning the Premier League 2 title, Wayne Burnett’s side have struggled to replicate that form this year.

They’ve been beaten five times already in Premier League 2 after just seven matches, leaving them 23rd in the division.

Several of the key players from last season’s squad have either left permanently or on loan, or spent more time with the first team this season, which explains the Under-21s’ struggles.

However, Dorrington, who was also one of the Under-21s’ key players last year, seems to have seen his development somewhat stagnate this season.

And after what happened to the central defender last time out, Postecoglou will no doubt be concerned by his lack of progress throughout the current campaign.

Alfie Dorrington struggles for Tottenham Under-21s v Reading Under-21s

Spurs were beaten 4-1 by Reading’s Under-21s in Premier League 2 at the Lamex Stadium on Friday (25 October).

Having taken the lead in the first half through the promising Jaden Williams, Jeremiah Okine-Peters scored four times in the second half to consign Spurs to yet another disappointing defeat.

Dorrington started the match as Spurs struggled defensively, and was shown a straight red card in stoppage time after he gave away a penalty from which Okine-Peters scored, his second such goal of the contest, and fourth overall.

It was only Dorrington’s third Premier League 2 appearance of the season with the defender having struggled with various injury issues this year.

Having spent a lot of time on Premier League benches last season, and even been included in a Europa League matchday squad this term, Postecoglou would have no doubt been hoping to see Dorrington kick on and make strides towards a senior Tottenham debut.

However, it looks as though his injury issues might have taken a lot out of the centre-back, and Spurs will be hoping to see him return to his previous best soon after yet another setback.
