Daniel Levy’s brilliance was on display once again as the Chicago Bears took on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (13 October).

While he might not be the most popular man in North London, it is difficult to deny that Levy has helped Spurs grow commercially in recent years.

And the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has proven pivotal in that commercial growth.

Some supporters might not like their football club’s stadium being used as an NFL venue. However, Levy will argue that while the October international break is on, Spurs might as well be making money from their stunning home.

American Football has found its home in England at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the first purpose-built stadium for the sport in this country. That partnership is set to continue after the NFL’s agreement with Spurs was extended until the 2029/30 season (via BBC Sport, 14 September 2023).

As part of the agreement, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be given the official status of ‘Home of the NFL’ in the UK.

And it seems as though there is quite a lot of money to be made from that status.

There is no doubt that Levy is a big driving force behind these events, evidenced by the fact that he was spotted in attendance on Sunday, with the Spurs chairman pictured alongside Amanda Staveley.

That will only increase speculation about potential investment by Staveley in North London, with a report via Alan Nixon’s Patreon on Sunday (13 October) adding further fuel to that fire. However, for now, it looks as though Levy is doing quite a remarkable job on the financial side of things, even without the added help or investment.

As per Football London (14 October), Spurs bring in almost £6million in matchday income each time Ange Postecoglou’s side play.

That is different with NFL matches, as Spurs make most of their money through the rental fee paid by the American franchise. However, they also “pull in major amounts of money with their portion of those huge sales of food, drink and merchandise from the megastore.”

On Sunday, 61,182 people were in attendance. The game began at 2:30, and ended at 5:30, with fans arriving at the ground hours before proceedings got underway.

Alasdair Gold also notes that many of the crowd remained in the stadium, eating and drinking, after the match had finished, while fans could still be seen flocking into the megastore – boasting NFL merchandise – just before 7 pm.

Therefore, it is safe to assume that Tottenham are set for a lucrative payday after the festivities on Sunday.

As a result, while some fans might have their reservations, it is hard to deny the genius of Levy, orchestrating these events which continue to make money for Spurs even when the football isn’t on.

In other Tottenham news, one youth player at the club has been compared with Ledley King.
