'Will definitely...' - King drops Son claim ahead of Tottenham v Man City after fitness update

Bryan King believes Ange Postecoglou must name a strong team when Manchester City visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (30 October).

The ex-Spurs scout claims Son Heung-min will start against the Cityzens as long as he is fit.

Speaking ahead of the disappointing 1-0 Premier League defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park (27 October), Postecoglou provided an update on the South Korean.

The Spurs boss said (via Football London, 28 October), “It’s not really a hamstring injury, but he was out for a while and wasn’t feeling right after the last game, so we’re just being conservative with him. All things being well, he should be alright for next week.”

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think a lack of motivation should be an issue for the Spurs players against City.

“If Son is fit he will definitely return,” King said.

“Postecoglou needs to play what he feels is his best team. If these players can’t be motivated to play against the English champions at home, then I don’t know what to say. I mean what more do you want?

“Son will start as long as he is fit, which means Mikey Moore will drop out of the team.”

Son Heung-min to start for Tottenham v Manchester City?

It is safe to say that Spurs could use a boost after their defeat against the Eagles, with King suggesting that one player, in particular, was especially unhappy after what happened to him at Selhurst Park.

Beating Pep Guardiola’s side and advancing to the fifth round of the Carabao Cup could be that perfect boost. Therefore, if Son can start on Wednesday, that would be huge for Postecoglou.

As well as being the club captain and one of their most important players, Son has a tremendous record against City.

Therefore, his involvement could be the difference between victory and defeat on Wednesday.
