£8.4m bid submitted for Everton ace, verbal proposal made - Ornstein

Everton have received an £8.4million bid for defender Ben Godfrey from Atalanta, according to David Ornstein.

The Athletic journalist reported on 26 June that the Toffees value the English centre-back at £15million.

The 26-year-old is understood to be keen on the move.

Via Twitter, Ornstein wrote: “Everton receive €10m bid from Atalanta for Ben Godfrey. Verbal proposal below £15m asking price (offered by another club). 26yo keen but Atalanta must get nearer valuation to prevent sale elsewhere or stay for last yr of Everton deal.”

Everton must not sell Ben Godfrey for anything less

The Toffees should hold firm on their valuation of Godfrey as he’s a versatile player who can play in multiple positions, which adds significant value to the squad.

Secondly, at 26 years old, Godfrey is in his prime and has a lot of experience under his belt.

This experience is invaluable in a team that’s looking to improve its performance.

Moreover, the Toffees are in a strong bargaining position.

Godfrey still has a year left on his contract, which means the club doesn’t need to sell him immediately.

This gives them leverage in negotiations and allows them to wait for a bid that matches their valuation.

Selling Godfrey for less than his value could send a message to other clubs that the Merseyside outfit are willing to settle for less than they believe their players are worth.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have made an approach to sign a midfielder at a side that recently won the Champions League.
