Ally McCoist instantly shared his unfiltered thoughts after Rangers announced the appointment of Patrick Stewart as their new CEO on Monday.

The Light Blues confirmed the appointment of Stewart as their new Chief Executive on 25 November and McCoist feels it was a long time coming.

He believes the former Manchester United executive’s arrival is a sign of things to come at Ibrox as the Glasgow giants look to steady the ship after a period of uncertainty.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [25 November, 9:44 am], the former Rangers striker said: “I knew that was going to come, it was always going to come

“Good experience as well, interim chief executive at Manchester United, spent 18 years at one of the biggest in the world.

“So, I’m very, very hopeful that is a start of things to come in terms of backroom. There’s got to be stability upstairs.

“This is the first sign of a little bit of stability coming back to the club. I don’t think there is any doubt about it because it has been all over the place.

“The players, of course, they’ve got to take responsibility for performances and results on the park, as does the manager, that goes without saying, but come on, in any business, it has to be well run from the top.

“John Gilligan has come in there and he’s fighting a battle himself, he’s had his hands tied and it has taken them a little bit of time, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. So, I, for one, am pleased.”

Ally McCoist pleased with Patrick Stewart announcement at Rangers

It emerged on Sunday [24 November] that the Gers are set to hire Stewart as their new CEO [Rangers Review] and the club confirmed the news on Monday morning.

Things are still a bit sore after the 1-1 draw with Dundee United on Saturday [23 November] that saw Philippe Clement’s side fall 11 points behind Celtic, but this is such a welcome appointment.

The Ibrox outfit has been without a CEO since James Bisgrove left the role in favour of a move to the Saudi Pro League in May 2024.

While Clement and Co. have certainly not made things easier for themselves, the lack of stability behind the scenes in recent months has affected the team.

Stewart, who most recently served as the interim CEO at Manchester United, will take office on 16 December and Rangers should also have a permanent chairman in place by then.

Malcolm Offord has emerged as a leading contender to fill the void left by John Bennett after being involved in discussions over the appointment for the CEO role [The Scottish Sun].

In other Rangers news, this Light Blues star has been torn to pieces after what he did in the draw against Dundee United on Saturday, 23 November.
