Everton are facing a battle to keep hold of talented youngster Douglas Lukjancik this summer, according to FootballTransfers.

The online source reported on Tuesday (25 June) that Aston Villa are keen on acquiring the 16-year-old goalkeeper, who is said to have a first-team future at Goodison Park, while Manchester City are also interested [Alan Nixon].

Already being considered one of the most promising shot-stoppers in England, Lukjancik would join a fellow face in Lewis Dobbin at Villa Park, with the striker completing his move on Sunday 23 June [Aston Villa].

With Villa coming knocking at Finch Farm for the goalkeeper, it is easy to understand why the player might be swayed.

However, given the Toffees’ current goalkeeping set-up, Sean Dyche and his team must think ahead to the future. Jordan Pickford is only 30 years of age, so Joao Virginia is unlikely to take the No.1 spot anytime soon.

The Portuguese ‘keeper has only made six senior appearances at Goodison Park since arriving from Arsenal’s academy in 2018, with Pickford an ever-present in between the sticks.

Mainly due to Lukjancik’s age, he has not broken into the first-team set-up yet but has regularly performed for Everton’s Under-18s and the England youth teams.

The youngster may need to be brought through the first team very soon or risk losing him to a club like Villa, which would be a huge blow for the Merseyside club.

Douglas Lukjancik could replace Jordan Pickford at Everton one day.

It is clear that the club have a plan in place for the 16-year-old, though the thought of Premier League top four, Champions League football, and the chance to learn under Unai Emery could be very tempting.

This is certainly a potential transfer to keep an eye on in this summer transfer window.

In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin is set for strict due diligence amid a takeover update at Goodison Park.
