Everton refuse to pay demands for new attacker transfer - report

Everton refused to meet Newcastle United’s asking price for Yankuba Minteh before a deal fell through, according to FootballTransfers.

The online source reported [25 June] that the 19-year-old forward is now thought to be nearing a move to Lyon, with the French side having made an offer to the Magpies [L’Equipe].

It is understood that Newcastle are looking to offload players to comply with the Premier League’s PSR laws, with Minteh said to be available for £30million this summer [Daily Mail].

However, the Toffees may now turn their attention to Manchester City’s Issa Kabore as an alternative signing, having tabled a £10.9million offer for the wing-back, as per AfricaFoot.

Everton pull out of Yankuba Minteh transfer race

Considering the Toffees’ current financial issues, especially before Dan Friedkin completes his takeover at Goodison Park, the club must be cautious with their summer signings.

Iliman Ndiaye already looks to be an expensive addition to Sean Dyche’s squad, with Fabrizio Romano issuing his famous “here we go” phrase via Twitter on Tuesday 25 June.

While no deal is certain until the club officially announces it, the former Sheffield United man looks to be heading back to England following a substandard spell in Ligue 1.

Minteh would have been another exciting addition to the team, having notched 11 goals and five assists in all competitions for Feyenoord before returning to St James’ Park.

Given that Dyche’s squad is extremely lacking in the winger department, eased by the re-signing of Leeds United’s Jack Harrison on loan, Minteh would have likely fit straight into the starting XI.

Everton target Yankuba Minteh excelled on loan at Feyenoord last season.

However, the asking price is just too much for the Toffees, with the club having to be sensible with their incomings until a larger sale is made at Goodison Park.

Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite are both being linked with big-money moves away from Merseyside this summer, though the club are much keener to keep the latter.

In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin is set for strict due diligence amid a takeover update at Goodison Park.
