Crystal Palace have told suitors that Ebere Eze will not leave the club in January amid interest from Tottenham, according to GiveMeSport.
Eze got the assist for Crystal Palace’s goal in their 1-0 win against Spurs at Selhurst Park on Sunday (27 October) and has been a crucial figure for the Eagles throughout his time there.
Tottenham were one of many clubs in the summer to have been reported as interested in triggering his release clause, which was reportedly set at £60 million (The Sun, 8 July).
Any hopes of rekindling that interest look unlikely in January with Palace’s stance clear as reported by GiveMeSport (29 October).
The report reads: “Crystal Palace will not entertain the possibility of sanctioning Eberechi Eze’s departure during the January transfer window and key decision-makers at Selhurst Park are poised to remain firm on their demands ahead of a host of admirers potentially testing their resolve, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.
“GMS sources have been informed that Palace wanted an upfront fee of close to £60million for Eze as preparations were made for the current campaign, having seen him make an impact at Euro 2024, and they continue to view him at top market value as Premier League rivals make recruitment plans for the winter and remain tempted to lodge an offer.”
Tottenham have to move on to other targets
Eze is a fantastic player and has continuously showcased his ability as a top-level Premier League athlete but Spurs can not afford to put all their eggs in one basket with this one.
Ange Postecgolou’s side have fallen away from the top four in recent weeks and January will provide an opportunity to strengthen the squad to aid their push for Champions League qualification.
James Maddison has enjoyed a decent start to the season for Spurs with six-goal contributions in all competitions but it is likely that they will look for creative reinforcements and with Eze now off the list, they must turn attention elsewhere.
Tottenham currently find themselves five points outside of the Premier League top four following their defeat to Palace and defeat in their next game could see them drop as low as 11th.
There is evidently a lot of quality in the current Spurs side but a lack of consistent creativity which would have been something Eze was identified to assist with.
Spur may still attempt to revisit a deal in January but any exit looks unlikely for Eze.
