Dan Bardell believes Tottenham need a new midfielder but would prioritise a senior option over Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough.
Spurs have been linked with the Boro star with GIVEMESPORT reporting on 22 August that they have been tracking the England U21 international for a prolonged period.
This would leave Ange Postecoglou with three midfield options 22 or under which could prove risky when injuries take their toll later in the season.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks a more experienced signing would be a better choice over the 22-year-old.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “I think Tottenham are missing something, I watched their first game of the season against Leicester and thought something was wrong.
“I think it could be an issue with that midfield area. I don’t see Pape Sarr being a number six, I think he’s better further forward.
“Bentancur has struggled with injury and now Hojbjerg and Skipp have left they’re left with Gray and Bergvall.
“I think they are missing a more established central midfielder and adding Hayden Hackney into that mix, I wouldn’t be so sure.“

Postecoglou could do with making some additions to his squad before the transfer window slams shut on 30 August.
They have to be considered deals for players who will have a genuinely positive impact on the squad in North London. They can not just be made for the sake of it.
Hackney feels like a player who will have been discussed by the club over the years with his form at Middlesbrough being a talking point.
No matter how good he has been for the Championship side, with Gray and Bergvall coming in over the summer already, it would be a risk to sign the Englishman.
With a hefty fee likely to be involved in any deal for Boro’s starman, Spurs should steer clear until January at the earliest.
