Rangers could secure an upgrade on their current deal with Castore if they reach an agreement with Adidas, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.

Reports suggest the world-renowned kit manufacturer has held talks with the Light Blues over potentially becoming their new kit supplier, with the Gers’ current deal with Castore set to end at the end of the season [Footy Headlines, 14 October].

Although Philippe Clement’s side are expected to remain with Castore beyond the end of the season, Plumley admits a deal with Adidas would be more financially beneficial to the Light Blues than their current agreement.

“In terms of historical figures, yes it probably would,” Plumley exclusively told Ibrox News.

“You tend to see that the big Adidas deals are higher in value than other players in the market, purely because of the size and scope of Adidas.

“There are some sort of nuances to that. Sometimes some of the Adidas deals are done via third parties, but if it were an upfront deal with Adidas, you’d expect it to be more than the Castore deal all things considered.

Will Rangers agree an Adidas kit deal at Ibrox?

“The likelihood suggests if that were a deal that was possible and again some of that will depend on Rangers’ performances as well. It will depend on if they continue to perform well on the pitch and get into the Champions League and Adidas will want to see that as well.

“It would be structured in the deal, but all things considered, history tells us that a deal with Adidas is likely to be more than a deal with Castore all things considered.”

The Light Blues are looking to close the gap to Celtic both on the pitch and in financial terms over the coming months and years and commercial deals like this can make a whole world of difference.

Plumley has already told Ibrox News that the Light Blues’ shirt sponsorship agreement with the Kindred Group is the biggest of its kind in Scotland, so steps are being taken in the right direction on the blue side of Glasgow.

Hopefully, an agreement can be reached with Adidas just to provide Clement’s side with a little extra financial boost ahead of the start of next season.
