Finance Expert: Tottenham could reach mutual agreement to terminate player contract

Tottenham could reach a mutual decision to terminate the contract of Sergio Reguilon, Dan Plumley has said.

The Spaniard is planning to terminate his contract and seal his exit in January after falling out of favour under Ange Postecoglou, among others [Caught Offside].

Plumley, a football finance expert, suggests that negotiations will focus on whether Reguilon leaves for nothing or if he can come to an agreement over a payoff.

“It can be [a mutual decision],” he exclusively told Tottenham News.

“It has happened in the past from time to time, the figures are rarely disclosed but we have seen instances where this happens, players wanting to terminate contracts and coming to a mutual agreement with the club.

“Whether that’s at the full value of the contract, or somewhere in the middle, or whether the player leaves and doesn’t want any money in return for the remaining six months is up for negotiation.

“It can play out that way, so it is something we have seen in the past and ultimately, again it’s fine negotiation but if it’s mutually beneficial for all parties then it is likely that a deal can be done.”

After failed loan spells at Brentford and Manchester United, it may be the end of the road in the Premier League, never mind just Tottenham.

John Wenham recently suggested that Reguilon would want 80 per cent of his remaining wages paid to leave, but if he wants that, he may have to lower those demands.
