Jude Bellingham in awe of what he saw Tottenham star do v Manchester City

Jude Bellingham has reacted to James Maddison after the Tottenham talisman bagged a brace in the 4-0 win against Manchester City.

The 28-year-old was “absolutely wonderful” at the Etihad as he celebrated his birthday in style, notching two goals alongside Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson to pull off one of the shocks of the season on Saturday [23 November].

Maddison took to his Instagram account [23 November], with England teammate Bellingham sending a two-word message to the midfielder.

He said: “Different gravy”.

It has not been an easy ride for Maddison in North London after his sensational maiden campaign last term, but still, he certainly silenced the doubters with his single-handed dismantling of Manchester City.

Spurs went into the clash at the Etihad as nailed-on underdogs as Ange Postecoglou named 17-year-old Callum Olusesi in his matchday squad, with Rodrigo Bentancur serving the first match of his seven-game FA suspension.

However, Pep Guardiola also had injury woes to contend with, and despite Tottenham missing both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, the visitors took full advantage against a weakened Manchester City side.

Maddison will feel rejuvenated after his exploits at the Etihad; the midfielder had grown unhappy with his current situation in North London and has resoundingly reminded Postecoglou what his side is missing when he is left in the dugout.

After an inconsistent start to the season, Tottenham has climbed to sixth place in the Premier League, level on points with Brighton and Nottingham Forest and are now firmly back in contention for Champions League qualification, all thanks to Maddison.

Whatever problem has arised between Postecoglou and the England international must be put to bed, Tottenham are a more threatening outfit when he is on the pitch and this result is exactly the momentum-boosting performance needed to hopefully now push on in the league.
