'Levy will be wary' - King concerned by Tottenham investment talks after Newcastle 'Trouble'

Bryan King believes Daniel Levy will be wary of accepting investment from Amanda Staveley after recent investment talks at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The ex-Spurs scout has referenced the “trouble” that followed after a Saudi-led consortium completed their takeover of Newcastle United.

It comes after the Sun on Sunday reported (page 56, 22 September), that Mehrdad Ghodoussi, Staveley’s husband and business partner, was present at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal (15 September).

Staveley has put a team together with Middle Eastern cash and other backers to buy a percentage of Tottenham.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – isn’t sure this is necessarily the right move for Spurs.

“I think the investment would be exciting,” King said.

“However, I’m not sure about the investors. I would be wary of this kind of investment. I’m sure Levy will be very wary as well.

“I think Tottenham really need to be looking at where the money is coming from. Are these people going to put a group together? Will it come from Saudi Arabia?

“How will that go down with Levy and the people that support the football club? They caused enough trouble after the Newcastle United takeover.

“As a result, it will be interesting to see whether the right people or investors are brought into the football club.”

Daniel Levy to be wary of Tottenham investment opportunity after what happened at Newcastle United

Once the Magpies were taken over, a lot of supporters weren’t best-pleased.

Concerns were raised over money coming from Saudi Arabia due to some human rights issues and the political implications of Saudi involvement.

That is a deal in which Staveley was heavily involved, and it seems as though she is once again looking toward Middle Eastern backing.

Therefore, Levy will need to be wary about the response from fans. Supporters have longed for years for fresh investment due to frustrations with the Spurs chairman and ENIC.

However, they will still want to be comfortable with where the investment is coming from.

In other Tottenham news, “serious trouble” has been mooted at the club as an injury fear emerges.
