Neal Maupay posts video in clear swipe at Everton after Fabrizio Romano update today

Neal Maupay has aimed a clear dig at Everton as he closes in on a Goodison Park exit.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X on Thursday (29 August), Maupay is on the verge of joining Marseille on a loan deal which includes a mandatory buy-option worth £3.4million.

In response to Romano’s Tweet, Maupay posted a clip from the movie ‘Shawshank Redemption’ via his own personal X account (29 August).

The clip references a scene which shows Andy, a character in the movie, crawling through 500 yards of sewage to freedom.

It is safe to say that Maupay will never be welcome back at Goodison Park again.

He will no doubt try to claim that this is just a light-hearted joke, but just as with some of his other off-field antics, this is an incredibly disrespectful act.

To have the audacity to post something like this is outrageous enough, but to post it before he has even left Everton officially is simply ridiculous.

Sean Dyche will be thrilled to see the back of a player who seems to spend more time on social media than he does on the pitch.

To refer to a club he has played with as sewage is classless enough, but to do it after the performances he put in is simply laughable. In 32 appearances Maupay managed just one goal for Everton, a terrible return.

And the fact that his last high-profile act as an Everton player was hitting back at supporters in a social media post (25 August) just about sums up his time at Goodison Park.
