Vaclav Cerny’s individual goal in the first half for Rangers against St Johnstone was “phenomenal”, Cammy Bell has said.
Speaking on BBC Sportscene (6 October), Bell had high praise for the on-loan Wolfsburg winger as he skilfully took the ball between his marker’s legs before curling home from 20 yards to make it 1-0.
Cerny went on to score again in the second half as Rangers left Ibrox with a 2-0 victory on Sunday 6 October, despite Ianis Hagi’s red card.
He said: “He was brilliant today – this individual piece of skill here, just takes it through the player’s legs, and the finish is phenomenal, right into the bottom corner.
“He uses the two defenders here as you can see, just the gap in between them to guide it past Ross Sinclair in the goals.
“Individual brilliance from Cerny there, absolutely fantastic and gave Rangers the perfect start.”
Vaclav Cerny provides perfect response for Rangers v St Johnstone
Cerny being at the double – with his first strike being an absolute peach – to give the Light Blues the win against St Johnstone is a stark contrast to his performance in front of goal just a few days prior.
The Czechia international’s unbelievable miss from barely yards out on 3 October was the first of several hard-to-stomach moments at Ibrox in the Gers’ 4-1 defeat to Lyon, with the game still poised at 0-0.
In a first half which saw any sense of defensive game management thrown out of the window early on, Cerny’s close-range miss represented a wasted opportunity for Clement’s side to establish control.
Cerny and Clement had no such worries against St Johnstone though, with the winger’s turn of speed, skill and sensational finish showing that he’s got what it takes to make the most of big chances.
Their strong European start – and four-game winning and clean-sheet streak in all competitions – may have come to an end against Lyon, but domestically, Cerny and the Gers are still shining at both ends.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement has given an injury update regarding one of the Light Blues’ top performers this season.
