Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold in talks over shock £84m deal - report

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly looking to purchase Ligue 1 club FC Nantes in his latest investment in French sports.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, the 25-year-old is in talks with current Nantes owner Waldemar Kita, 71, over a €100million (£84million) deal to take over the eight-time Ligue 1 champions.

It’s understood that the Liverpool star’s father, Michael Arnold, who acts as the manager of his son’s interests through a London-based investment firm, has a keen interest in the French sports market.

Purchasing Nantes wouldn’t Alexander-Arnold’s first foray into the market, he is also a minority shareholder of the French Formula 1 team Alpine F1 through Otro Capital.

L’Equipe also reports that Arnold was interested in purchasing AS Saint-Etienne and Le Havre before finally settling on a move for Nantes.

Kita is said to be unpopular in Nantes following his failure to build a new stadium and the Ligue 1 TV rights debacle that saw Club presidents agree to a TV deal with DAZN and BeIN Sports which is a 12.3 per cent decrease from their previous contract.

On the pitch, things are going well for Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool, sitting in fourth place with three wins and one defeat.

That single defeat came at the hands of one of the Premier League’s surprise packages Nottingham Forest, who secured the win thanks to a 72nd-minute goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Arne Slot was able to earn his first Champions League win as Liverpool boss on Tuesday (September 17), beating Italian giants AC Milan 3-1.

Alexander-Arnold played a pivotal role, providing the assist for Ibrahima Konate’s 23rd-minute equaliser after going behind to a third-minute Christian Pulisic goal.

Both Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold will be hoping to continue their fine form as they prepare to host Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday (September 21).
