Cyriel Dessers has admitted he does not want to leave Rangers despite interest from elsewhere.
Rangers are looking to recoup the £4million they paid for Dessers last year, with teams in four different countries showing an interest [Chris Jack, 3 July].
However, the 29-year-old striker revealed his intention to stay after Saturday’s (13 July) pre-season match against Ajax.
Speaking to Ziggo Sports, Dessers said: “I am very happy here, so I would like to stay.
“There is some interest, but my intention is to stay and then we will see what happens.”
Although there is some interest in him, Dessers is focused on his current contract with the Scottish club, which runs until 2027.
Is Cyriel Dessers likely to leave Rangers?
Cyriel Dessers has sparked a lot of talk about his future at Rangers, especially after his recent comments. Despite rumours of interest from clubs in the Netherlands, Italy and even Saudi Arabia, Dessers himself says he’s happy at the Gers and wants to stay.
This is a big statement, considering the club’s reported desire to recoup the £4m they paid for him last year.
Dessers’ performance has been solid, scoring 22 times in 54 appearances, showing he’s a valuable player – if not a spectacular one.
However, football is unpredictable, and the business side of the sport often plays a huge role in transfer decisions.
If Rangers receive a good offer that meets their financial expectations, they might consider letting him go, even if Dessers prefers to stay.
In the end, it boils down to the club’s priorities and any potential offers on the table. For now, though, it seems Dessers is set on staying at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, the club are expected to intensify their pursuit to sign Lawrence Shankland after a recent transfer development.
