Tottenham make official response to claim they blocked cheaper tickets

Tottenham were reportedly one of three major clubs to oppose a rule change that would make tickets cheaper for visiting fans.

Before the start of all three major European competitions next month, UEFA has reduced the maximum ticket prices for away supporters.

UEFA has announced that this season’s Champions League away tickets will be capped at £50, while tickets for the Europa League will be capped at £33.70 and for the Conference League at £16.85.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham were one of three clubs that objected the lowering the amount they can charge visiting fans in the Europa League this season. The other two remain unknown.

A Tottenham statement said: “It is factually incorrect to state that there was a vote on this matter at the UEFA Club Competitions Committee. It is therefore entirely inaccurate to say that the Club voted against ticket price caps.”

Tottenham object against lower Europa League ticket prices

All three European tournaments have undergone a major format change. The group stage has been ditched, in favour of a ‘Swiss’ league model.

The changes mean Champions League and Europa League teams will face eight different opponents, while Conference League teams will play six before the knockout stages.

Friday’s draw handed Spurs home ties against Roma, AZ Alkmaar, Qarabağ, and Elfsborg, along with away trips to Rangers, Ferencváros, Galatasaray, and Hoffenheim.

It’s been a mixed start in the Premier League for Spurs, a thumping 4-0 victory over struggling Everton was quickly forgotten after a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Next up is the biggest game in their calendar, the North London derby against fierce rivals Arsenal on Sunday, September 15th.
