Philippe Clement needs help at striker as he looks to offload Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers this summer with his squad looking light on goals.

The new season is just around the corner and his transfer overhaul at Ibrox still only looks half finished.

He appears to have changed his mind on a move for Hearts star Lawrence Shankland [Daily Record, 22 July] but time is running out to get players out of the way and fees in to fund such deals.

One striker who appears won’t be heading to Ibrox is Oli McBurnie after Fabrizio Romano reported via X on 23 July the former Sheffield United man is set to join Las Palmas in Spain.

Oli McBurnie wants to play for Rangers

A verbal agreement has already been reached and the Scotland international has a medical booked for the end of the week.

McBurnie admitted earlier this year that he wants to play for Rangers before he ends his career, telling the Stomping Ground Podcast on 5 April the Light Blues are a “special” club which he grew up supporting and he hopes to play in at least one Old Firm derby before he retires.

The 28-year-old is a free agent after leaving Bramall Lane so would not have required fees generated from selling Dessers and company, with as much as £75,000-a-week expected to come off the wage bill once James Tavernier and Connor Goldson’s proposed transfers are completed [David Edgar, 22 July].

Whether the Gers fan would have been the answer at Ibrox looks to now be a moot point but after six Premier League goals last term, and 13 in the English Championship the previous year, he could have helped address a scoring issue that will only increase if the captain goes.

Oli McBurnie won’t be joining Rangers as he is set to move to Las Palmas.

The pressure is therefore on Clement and Nils Koppen to land a proven goalscorer for the new campaign after also seeing their pursuit of Albion Rrahmani run into trouble this summer.

Bojan Miovski is also liked at Aberdeen [Scottish Daily Mail, 1 July] but the dispute with the Dons over Connor Barron compensation makes that move unlikely to happen.

Shankland has been linked for months but might finally be the man in the club’s sights as the days tick by in the transfer window.

In other Rangers news, Clement could leave amid rumours linking to another job says Keith Jackson.
