John Wenham has described the signing of Archie Gray and the sale of Joe Rodon as “fantastic” transfer business for Tottenham.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes Gray has the potential to become a star in North London.
Tottenham signed Gray for around £30million from Leeds United with Joe Rodon heading in the other direction for a fee of around £10million (via BBC Sport, 2 July).
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – was delighted with both bits of business.
“This is the type of signing I believe we should always be looking to make as a club,” Wenham said.
“Gray ticks so many boxes for us. He is young, versatile, and has already made more than 40 Championship appearances.
“He is probably one of the best 18-year-olds in world football, therefore, signing him in a deal which also saw us manage to offload Rodon was a fantastic move for all parties.
“I think Gray will succeed at the club, and I think he will play a lot of football next year, as a mixture of a midfielder and playing in that inverted right-back position.”

Tottenham wouldn’t have invested such a considerable amount of money into the player if the club didn’t have big plans for him.
Therefore, supporters should expect to see a lot of Gray next season. While some might question whether he is ready due to his age, that is quickly becoming a redundant point in football.
Kobbie Mainoo isn’t much older than Gray while Lamine Yamal is younger, and both players are excelling at the 2024 UEFA European Championship.
As a result, it is probably very likely that Gray will be handed similar opportunities to make an impact next season.
Therefore, the Englishman must make sure to grab those opportunities at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with both hands.
