'You just have to...' - Pundit moots new 'Rules' for Dyche at Everton in relegation verdict

Rory Jennings has set new rules for Sean Dyche at Everton in a brand-new relegation verdict live on talkSPORT.

The Toffees are looking to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone when they face West Ham United in their final game before the international break at the London Stadium on Saturday (9 November).

Although talkSPORT pundit Jennings believes the Blues are a “massive club” who should be aiming for more than survival, he believes the Toffees’ only goal this term should be remaining in the Premier League.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (8 November, 20:40) he said: “I think Everton just feels like the impossible job though.

“Anything that involved Everton staying in the league is a success. Everton staying in the league is so vital, it’s essential.

“They cannot go to this sparkling new stadium in the Championship. They just can’t so anything that involves Everton surviving this season needs to be viewed through the lens of success.

“The question then becomes, are they going to survive with Sean Dyche? The Gwladys Street won’t let them go down, to be honest, and neither will Sean Dyche.

“I think that Everton are a massive club, they should be so much more ambitious than this and I don’t even like talking about them in these terms, but for one season only, I think we need to change the rules. The rules for this season are, that you just have to survive.”

Blues supporters want to be aspiring for more than survival each and every year and this summer’s transfer business gave them hope the Toffees could be pushing for the top half of the Premier League again.

Not only did Dyche manage to add the likes of Iliman Ddiaye, Jesper Lindstrom and Armando Broja to his ranks, but he also managed to keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jarrad Branthwaite and Jordan Pickford on Merseyside despite plenty of speculation.

While it is by no means the strongest side in the Premier League, it is an outfit that should not be at risk of relegation. Dyche will know that and he will come under pressure if he is dragged into that dogfight at the foot of the table.

But if he keeps the Blues in the Premier League, that will be a success. It is unlikely to be enough for him to earn a new contract, but it will stand him in good stead to get another Premier League job in the future.
