Ange Postecoglou makes Tottenham request after new sack update

Ange Postecoglou has asked the Tottenham Hotspur board to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, according to The Times.

The Times reported on 27 December that while Posteocglou retains the support of Spurs’ hierarchy for the time being, there is a mutual understanding that results must improve to stave off further scrutiny.

As a result, the Australian is hopeful that he’ll be allocated funds to buy reinforcements for his depleted squad in January, as he looks to supplement an injury-hit Spurs side with players who will fit his style.

While Posteocglou remains under contract in North London until 2027, even the most optimistic of Spurs fans would admit that their opening half of the campaign has been underwhelming to say the least.

The Lilywhites sit a lowly 11th in the Premier League table following nine defeats already and just seven victories, with Postecoglou’s style of play being seen as a root cause of their many problems.

Particularly defensively, the 59-year-old’s gung-ho approach has left a makeshift backline – now missing its four first-choice centre-backs – woefully exposed, underlining the need for reinforcements in January.

Losing 4-3 and 6-3 at home to Chelsea and Liverpool respectively, either side of a 5-0 away win at Southampton, shows just how brilliantly bizarre and inconsistent Spurs have been so far this term.

If Postecoglou can significantly strengthen his side in January, their season may not quite be a lost cause, but if the opposite happens, Daniel Levy and the hierarchy may have a tough decision to make.
