Dan Bardell: Tottenham to reinvest Skipp money in new midfielder after Leicester 'overspent'

Dan Bardell believes Tottenham should reinvest the fee received from Leicester City for Oliver Skipp in the midfield.

Spurs have sold the 23-year-old to the Foxes for a deal worth in excess of £20million [BBC Sport] after coming through the academy.

This leaves Ange Postecoglou with fewer options in the centre of the pitch meaning he could be forced to utilise younger options in his squad.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks it would be a risk to rely on them and that investment is needed.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “They’ve already got Archie Gray who’s come in and Bergvall. It would be a lot to ask to rely on them as two of the four midfield options.

“Spurs fans will be hoping that the money from Skipp will be reinvested in the playing squad. I think they do need something new in that central midfield area.

“It’s a good fee to receive for someone who isn’t first choice, they’ll be happy with that. I think for the player and the club it is a great deal, perhaps Leicester overspent a little bit.“

It was no surprise to see Spurs move on the Englishman who had only made limited appearances for under Postecoglou last season.

The former Norwich City loanee made just five starts in the Premier League last season [FotMob] so moving him on makes sense.

To receive such a high fee for him is a positive piece of business especially with Gray and Bergvall coming in, in the same transfer window.

The youngster signed from Leeds United could prove to be a breakout star in the Premier League in midfield and at right back.

Spurs have positive options but certainly wouldn’t miss a new option in the middle of the park.

Postecoglou will be hoping that a new signing could provide his side with a boost after a difficult night against Leicester to start the season.
