Real Betis sources suggest that Manuel Pellegrini is preparing to sign Dele Alli after the expiration of his Everton contract, according to El Nacional.
The Spanish outlet reported on its website on Saturday (8 September) that the Spanish club are willing to offer the England international a one-year deal with the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.
Betis are in the market for midfield reinforcements after Isco picked up a new injury to leave Pellegrini’s La Liga side with a void in the middle of the park.
Sean Dyche’s side are reportedly still in talks with Dele over a potential new deal at Goodison Park, but due to the 28-year-old’s status as a free agent, there is no need for the Toffees to make a quick decision [Sky Sports, 30 August].
Will Dele Alli complete new transfer after summer Everton exit?
While no final decisions have yet been made, it feels as though Dele remains a wanted man all around Europe in spite of the fact he hasn’t made a competitive appearance for well over a year now.
At his best, the 28-year-old can be one of the best and most exciting players to watch in the Premier League, the only caveat to that is the fact that he has been nowhere near his best for the last two to three years.
While Everton could still offer him a contract extension to keep him at Goodison Park having held talks with Tottenham, the power is with the midfielder to decide where he wants to play his football and how long he wants to wait for the Toffees.
A move to Betis would allow the former Spurs man to play regularly in a major European league and while a one-year deal isn’t most secure, there would be an option for him to earn an extension if he performed well.
Perhaps the interest from abroad may be enough to kick Everton into gear and force Dyche’s side to make a final decision from their side.
If a deal can be reached on small terms to extend his stay on Merseyside, it feels as though the Blues would be foolish to not even consider it.
