Ex-FA chief shares if he has had talks with Rangers over CEO role

Adrian Bevington has shared that he “has not had any dialogue” with Rangers about the vacant CEO position despite making “initial contact”.

Reports emerged on Wednesday (Daily Record, 11 September) that the former English FA chief had contacted the club with an interest in taking the CEO role, but hasn’t made any progress.

The Glasgow club have been without a chief executive officer since the departure of James Bisgrove, following his shock move to Saudi Arabia in June.

In quotes reported by the Daily Record (11 September), Bevington said: “I do know one or two people in and around Rangers.

“I made some initial contact quite some time ago now but I have not had any dialogue with Rangers with regard to this position.”

Are Rangers moving too slow?

The Gers have been without a CEO for three months now and there are growing concerns that the club are falling further behind rivals Celtic both on and off the pitch.

After a poor start to the season, pressure has already started to mount for manager Phillipe Clement, but the problems lie higher within the club.

Bevington seems to have the perfect CV for the vacant position, yet those behind the scenes seem hesitant to make a decision that will only benefit those at Ibrox.

Ibrox, Rangers

With previous roles at Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, Bevington on the surface seems like he could be a decent fit at Ibrox and the 53-year-old clearly has the desire to make a difference at the club.

Rangers sit five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen after just four games of the new season, and will be desperate to cling on to the frontrunners.

Appointing a new CEO would at least be the sort of positive step off the pitch Rangers need, whether that be Bevington or a different candidate.

In other Rangers news, one pundit is concerned that Jack Butland “has forgotten how to use his hands”.
