Hugh Keevins has admitted that he is “concerned” after Rangers manager Philippe Clement shared an update on Clinton Nisala and Hamza Igamane.

Both Nisala and Igamane joined the Light Blues squad this summer but in his first press conference of pre-season, the Gers manager has admitted neither will be expected to start immediately [Football Scotland, 12 July].

While Daily Record writer Keevins admits that under-the-radar signings can go on to become successful in the future, he has admitted he is worried that two of the Gers’ summer additions are “nowhere near ready”.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Friday (12 July, 18:35) he said: “Yes it is possible to have somebody from out of left field and they become essential to the team.

“But I’m just a little concerned that Philippe Clement has named two players, come out, named them and said in other words they’re nowhere near ready.”

Are Rangers close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?

While most Rangers supporters expected a summer rebuild under Philippe Clement, the Light Blues have been much quieter than expected despite making several additions to the Belgian’s first-team squad.

Barring the free agents who walked away for nothing at the end of their contracts, no players have left Glasgow for big fees yet this term with Robby McCrorie the only real departure of note in the last few months.

That has meant the Gers haven’t had too much money to spend on incoming players and while several players have arrived at Ibrox, there is a fear that many of them like Nsiala and Igamane may not be ready to start the Premiership season.

If the Light Blues genuinely want to beat Celtic to the title next term, they simply have to add some more ready-made talent to their ranks before the season gets underway. If they don’t, they could have lost before they even really start.

Hopefully, as international tournaments begin to wind down and the transfer window heats up, there will be more movement both in and out of Rangers.

In other Rangers news, one Light Blues defender is expected to exit Ibrox before the end of the summer transfer window having been snubbed in pre-season
